Track racing in South Australia has just had a major shot in the arm with racing to recommence at Hanson Reserve after an extensive redevelopment of the velodrome.
The Kilkenny Cycling Club is proud to announce the return of SA’s most prestigious track event “The Navy Cup” – which will be held for the first time in over 14 years. In a fitting tribute to the origin of the Cup – the soldiers who died at sea in World War II, “The Navy Cup” race will held on ANZAC Day, April 25th 2019 and annually thereafter.
In addition to this magnificent event each year, KCC is proud to announce race dates for the remainder of the 2018/19 season AND race dates for 2019/20.
Highlights of the race calendar for 2019/20 will include the return of The 200 Lap Derby to its birthplace and reverting to the traditional 200 lap format which will be complemented by a Master’s and Women’s version later in the season. The shorter sprint handicap (The Perce Beare Memorial) will be included on the program along with a major new feature keirin event, The Christmas Cup (held just prior to Christmas each year).
The Helen Baird Memorial Series for Juniors will now be run over the Summer track season along with the Graeme Zucker “Club Combine” Shield.
The opening date for the 2018/19 season will be dependent on the finalisation and handover of the velodrome once confirmed by council, however general track racing will be held fortnightly on Sunday mornings throughout an extended summer season from August – April, punctuated by the feature events on Saturday nights in what promises to be a triumphant return to racing at Hanson Reserve.
